Betfred, a well-known UK-based bookmaker, has decided to extend its partnership with The Jockey Club, further solidifying its support for The Derby Festival at Epsom Downs. This renewed collaboration secures Betfred’s involvement with The Jockey Club until at least 2026, much to the delight of fans of the sport.
The initial partnership between Betfred and The Jockey Club was first announced in April 2023, with Betfred becoming the new sponsor of The Oaks and The Derby at Epsom Downs. This set the stage for future collaboration between the two parties. Now, with the newest sponsorship deal, starting in 2024, the two-day flat race will officially be known as The Betfred Derby Festival, as the operator strengthens its commitment to the prestigious event. Fred Done, Betfred Group chairman, expressed the company’s eagerness to elevate the festival’s prominence.
As part of the extended partnership, Betfred’s agreement includes the naming rights for the festival and backing an extra race on each day of the Festival, bringing the total sponsored races to six across the two days. This enhancement aims to improve the racing experience for both participants and spectators.
Founded in 1967, Betfred has grown into the largest independent bookmaker in the UK with 1,400 high street shops. The company also operates globally in South Africa and the USA. Beyond its significant presence in the UK, the company’s continuous commitment to supporting British horseracing has been demonstrated through its sponsorship involvement in major racing events such as The Oaks and The Derby at Epsom. The managing director at Jockey Club Racecourses, Amy Starkey, expressed enthusiasm for the extended partnership, describing it as a significant development.
The extension of the partnership between Betfred and The Jockey Club highlights a shared dedication to enhancing the quality and prestige of The Derby Festival, promising an exciting future for racing enthusiasts worldwide. This also solidifies Betfred’s leading position in the horseracing vertical, serving as an exciting start to 2024.
