The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), BACTA, and the Bingo Association have joined forces to host an annual event aimed at promoting responsible gambling. This event seeks to showcase the tools available to empower customers to stay in control and provide assistance to those seeking help and advice. The event has gained the support of UK Gambling Minister Stuart Andrew, who emphasized the collaborative efforts of the government, industry, and the regulator in preventing harm.

The chief executive of the Gambling Commission, Andrew Rhodes, stressed the importance of safety in gambling and the unique opportunity presented by Safer Gambling Week to draw attention to its importance. He also highlighted the opportunity for operators to share best practices and ensure the safest gambling opportunities in the world.

Last year’s event saw significant success, with over 200,000 accounts setting deposit limits and a 12.5% increase from the previous year. Additionally, the use of reality check alerts and monitoring play duration saw a remarkable 300% increase, while social media engagement soared to nearly 30 million impressions on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Safer Gambling Week plays a crucial role in promoting initiatives such as encouraging deposit limits, time-outs, and directing customers to various self-exclusion services. Michael Dugher, chief executive of the Betting and Gaming Council, emphasized the importance of promoting vital safer gambling tools unique to the regulated betting and gaming sector.

John White, chief executive of BACTA, highlighted the opportunity presented by Safer Gambling Week to showcase the year-round efforts of the gambling sector in ensuring customers can enjoy recreational wagering safely. The united front presented during Safer Gambling Week underscores the industry’s dedication to responsible gaming advocacy and safer practices. Additionally, prominent online gaming platforms and services provider, Microgaming, is also actively supporting Safer Gambling Week.
